All-Weather Championships return for 10th season at Newcastle tomorrow

Season 10 of the All-Weather Championships starts at Newcastle tomorrow, October 18, and concludes with the £1 million Finals Day at the same course on Good Friday, April 7.

Notable graduates from last season’s All-Weather Championships include Highfield Princess, Pyledriver and Alenquer, who have all gone on to G1 success on the turf this year.

The six championship categories remain the same as in season 9, with four Fast-Track Qualifiers per category taking place at All-Weather tracks in Britain, France and Ireland during the season.

*Three-Year-Olds sponsored by News UK - 6f Final

*Fillies & Mares sponsored by News UK - 7f Final

*Mile sponsored by Spreadex Sports - 1m Final

*Sprint sponsored by BetUK - 6f Final

*Marathon sponsored by BetUK - 2m Final

*Middle Distance sponsored by BetUK - 10f Final

Listed winners Alpha Capture and Shouldvebeenaring head a talented line-up for tomorrow’s Talksport Download The App EBF Conditions Stakes (2.38pm), a Fast-Track Qualifier for the Three-Year-Old Championships.

Alpha Capture makes a quick reappearance for William Haggas having landed the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York on October 8, taking his record to two wins and two seconds from four starts.

Anthony Bromley, racing manager for owners Simon Munir & Isaac Souede, said: “It has been William’s plan for a while to try to win this first Fast-Track qualifier with Alpha Capture and then target Finals Day, but the race looks a bit hotter than we were expecting, so we shall just have to see how he gets on.”

Shouldvebeenaring came from an improbable position to give Richard Hannon another victory in the Goffs sales race at York’s Ebor Festival and the son of Havana Grey followed up in the Listed Ripon Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy.

The Middleham Park Racing runner was a creditable fourth behind Sakheer in the G2 Mill Reef Stakes but was reportedly unsuited by softer ground when seventh in another sales race at York on October 7.

Tim Palin of Middleham Park Racing said: “Shouldvebeenaring has had a fantastic season for us. For a £40,000 purchase, he has achieved more than we could have dreamed of.

“After the Mill Reef, when Sakheer put him in his place, we had a chat about what we wanted to do going forward. Do we sell him or keep him for next year? Richard came up with the idea of Finals Day at Newcastle, which led us to look at this race.

“He ran last time out over seven furlongs and Sean Levey said he was one of the first beaten due to the ground, but we had to run because it was a £100,000 race.

“We think the stiff six furlongs at Newcastle should be right up his street. He should be a major player given the fact he is a Listed winner, although the William Haggas horse will take a bit of knocking over.

“Finals Day is definitely on his radar and we could target the Spring Cup at Lingfield before then.”

Kinta brings in a notable piece of form for George Boughey, having finishing second to Lezoo in the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes in July. The dual All-Weather winner disappointed on her only subsequent start when down the field in the G2 Lowther Stakes at York.

Never Just A Dream also has two All-Weather victories to his name, with Ismail Mohammed’s contender winning a course and distance nursery impressively on the closing night of Racing League.

G2 Norfolk Stakes fifth Bakeel makes his second start for Jane Chapple-Hyam after finishing third in a conditions race at Salisbury, having previously been with Andrew Balding and then Kevin Philippart de Foy.

The runners are completed by Beverley maiden winner Havana By The Sea and Michaela’s Boy
