Henderson duo Constitution Hill & Epatante head field of 5 declared for Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle (G1)

After his late withdrawal at Ascot last Saturday, Constitution Hill is set to line up against stablemate Epatante in the Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle (G1) this Saturday as both were declared for the race on Thursday morning.

Constitution Hill, highly touted for the Champion Hurdle following his emphatic display in the Supreme last season, is now the red-hot favourite for Newcastle’s showpiece race and is as short as 1-4 with sponsors Betfair.

He will, however, have to overcome his stablemate and 2020 Champion Hurdle heroine Epatante at Gosforth Park in a race she won outright two years ago before dead-heating with Not So Sleepy 12 months ago.

The locally trained Tommy’s Oscar has made a solid start to his chasing career but will revert to the smaller obstacles for Ann Hamilton.

Voix Du eve completes the field of five after he finished runner-up behind Dashel Drasher at Aintree at the start of November.

Barry Orr, Head of Media Relations at Betfair, said: “It’s the biggest clash of the National Hunt season to date and all eyes will be on Constitution Hill as he encounters open company for the first time. Some punters have tasty ante-post vouchers for him having been odds against in that market but since confirmation of his participation he has contracted from 4/11 to 1/4’’

The action kicks off at 11.55am with the seven-race card drawing to a close with the Betfair Exchange Rehearsal Handicap Chase at 3.25pm where L’Homme Presse is the headline name on show.
